Golf Course
Winding through the Stonecutters Ridge development, the intended Greg Norman-designed 18 hole championship golf course has been designed to be ranked in Australia’s Top 100 Courses. The 6,247 m, par 72 course, will sit amongst the rolling topography of the site. The course landscape will reflect the characteristics of it natural surrounds with three distinct themes, each complementing the overall development and providing a range of sensory experiences as players travel around the course.
Golf Course Design - Message From Greg Norman
“I’ve built a course that’s memorable for everybody – young or old, expert or novice”, said Greg Norman. The world champion golfer was impressed with the progress of the course to date and explained why he loves the site. “I fell in love with the Stonecutters Ridge site because, as a designer, I look for certain movement in the terrain. This property is special because the gaps between the ridges are almost perfect for a golf hole”, added Greg.
Latest Golf Course Update - May 2011
Sydney’s First Greg Norman Golf Course is now complete.
Monday, May 16, 2011
The eagerly anticipated Greg Norman-designed championship golf course at Stonecutters Ridge in Colebee has seen the final stages of construction completed – 14 of the 18 holes are fully established, with the remainder growing in over the coming months. Expected to open for play next year, Sydney’s first Greg Norman-designed course will be the showcase feature of thisspectacular master planned community.
“There wasn’t a whole lot of earth moving we had to do here – you could actually just do your layout, put the greens in the right places and put your tees in there and just go with it”, said Greg Norman, on a recent visit to check the site’s progress mid last year. Norman fell in love with the site due to the movement in the terrain and the gaps between the ridges, which made it perfect for a golf course.
The 18-hole course is surrounded by spectacular natural bushland and follows the meanderings of Eastern Creek, giving golfers a picturesque journey. The open manicured holes 2 to 5 contrast with the strongly contoured native grass holes 10 to 15, contributing to a varied and enjoyable game.
Over the last 6 months, the final stages of golf construction have focussed on landscape, maintenance and golf hole construction. The spring/summer period has accelerated the growth of the native grassing to upland holes and has also seen
the establishment of couch areas – holes 1 to 11 and 18 are in good condition and are ready to lift into play.
As with all Medallist courses, the environment has been a high priority throughout the construction phase, with minimal disruption to the existing landscape and new foliages and natural trees planted throughout the course. A wet spring has aided in the establishment of new native trees and shrubs, and landscape plantings to holes 8 and 9 are maturing well.
"The golf course is looking sensational with its natural undulating landscape and surrounds which provide stunning views. Congratulations to Greg, his team, and all involved with its delivery. I look forward to its grand opening next year," said Lloyd Gomez, Stonecutters Ridge Project Director.
